Back Ground: Murthy family which owns Murthy Hi-Tech Organic Farms has vast experience in agriculture and social sector. HMB Murthy, born in a farmer’s family, hails from a small, remote village in Shivamogga district of Karnataka. He founded Nageshwara Charitable Trust (NCT), an NGO dedicated to the welfare of women, tribes & farmers during 1999. NCT has been implementing NABARD sponsored developmental programmes / projects for women and tribes, Natural Resource Management, farmer’s welfare etc for almost 2 decades. Since 2005, NCT has implemented various farmers’ welfare programmes, mainly the lead crop yield augmentation programmes in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh states. NCT also demonstrates sustainable / improved agriculture practises while implementing the Tribal Development Wadi Projects.

While implementing farm related programmes / projects through NCT, Shri. Murthy has found it difficult to convince the farmers to adopt improved method of agricultural practises like correct method of seed treatment, root treatment, proper nutrient and micronutrient management, maintaining plant population, distance between plants and rows, Soil conservation, judicious use of water using drip, sprinklers and total automation in water management. All these small initiatives make a very positive impact on the output of the given crop. NCT introduced a low-cost, high-yield agricultural practise known as NCT-Konde model (In association with Trust’s long-term associate Agri. Expert and adviser Mr. Sunil Konde). However, after repeated training and demonstrations, the response from the farmers was not whole hearted.

Shri. Murthy was born in a farming family and did all farm related work up to his 12th standard studies. He decided to demonstrate what is being taught by his NGO by setting up a hi-tech integrated agriculture farm and demonstrate the entire farm related simple initiatives, which benefit farmers immensely and change their outlook towards agriculture. The farmers can do profitable farming by making small changes in their farming methods / practises and of course with hard work. An Agriculture Knowledge Centre (AKC) has been set up at village Raulgaon in Katol block of Nagpur district by NCT which was inaugurated by Hon. Chairman of NABARD Dr. Harshkumar Bhanwala on 24/02/2016.
